"Here, deep in the hills overlooking the Riviere Rouge valley, I have found my place to reflect and create.  Painting helps me understand my place as a temporary tenant in nature"

"Peindre me permet de cerner la place que j'occupe en tant locataire temporaire de la nature qui m'abrite.  Je m'efforce de créer des images qui évacuent le sentimentalisme au profit des formes et qui expriment mes qualités humaines autant réalistes qu'abstraites."

                     VICTORIA'S QUILTERS
                     Textile Art

The Laurentian Branch of Victoria’s Quilts Canada (VQC) in Arundel was established by Mary Sinclair.  It is a non-profit organization that makes quilts for people suffering from cancer.   In 2009, they moved to the Résidence Vallée de la Rouge in Huberdeau because of more storage room for all of their quilting needs, but now they meet in the hall at Grace church in Arundel.

Now entering their 4th year, they now have 40 volunteers that come as far away as Hawkesbury, La Minerve and Namur. They average from 25 to 30 at their monthly workshops.

They have made so many people happy. The quilts are made of 100% cotton, and each quilt also comes with a bag, which are created by the volunteers at home in their spare time. So much love goes into these warm quilts. They supply mainly the Laurentian area, but also supplu other areas upon request. They have distributed close to 390 quilts since mid 2007, most of them hand delivered.

                     VICTOR COURTE

Victor Courte, singer songwriter, native of Harrington Quebec, has developed a style that he claims stems from his roots in rural Quebec. His grandparents on his fathers side of the family fed him french folkloric music while his grandparents on his mothers side nourished him with Scottish, Irish, and English folk music. Hence his album Rouge River Road a collection of songs Victor wrote in and around the community where he grew up. The stories that he tells in song and word give you an exact sense of the past and present day rural Quebec.

                      RAY SEALEY

Ray was born in England and did a degree in English Literature after emigrating to Canada.  He was involved in folk music in his early years but then turned to classical guitar. He eventually taught music at the Universities of Western Ontario and Ottawa. He also worked in radio at the CBC and later in arts management being involved in music festivals, summer music centers and orchestras.  He was Executive Director of CAMMAC for several years.

Now, later in life, he has returned from the classical world to his early roots in folk music. His love of poetry and literature and the folk songs that led him to the guitar are now combined in, why not? the new musical directions and discoveries of an older man. He spends summer in the Laurentians and winter in a camper in any part of Florida that looks interesting. And he writes songs and plays them for anyone who would like to listen. His favourite venues are house concerts.

Ray Sealey won the 2014 Third Prize (out of 80 entries) in the Best New Florida Song contest at the Will McLean Music Festival in Florida and performed on the main stage there. The song was Kissimmee Prairie Dream.
